Introduction

Dear Reader,

I suppose I should explain who I am, why this blog exists, and what qualifies me to write about Disney movies. My name is Alex, I'm a 24 year old college student quickly approaching graduation, and I am a huge fan of all things Disney, particularly the films. The primary inspiration for this blog came from a film I saw this summer, which was not a Disney film. That film was Julie & Julia, based on a true story about a girl who attempted to cook 524 of Julia Child's recipes in a single year while blogging about it. The second inspiration comes from a wonderful book called The Disney Films by Leonard Maltin. The first edition of the book chronicles all of the feature films made during Walt Disney's lifetime. Later editions added general information about the studio's subsequent films, but its primary focus was films made between 1937 (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) through 1968 (The Happiest Millionaire). The book is sadly out of print. The reason that I am qualified to write about Disney movies is that I have been watching them since before I can remember and Walt Disney is my personal hero and role model.

Unlike Leonard Maltin, I am not a professional movie critic, nor have I majored in film studies or journalism. And unlike Julie Powel, I don't have a specified goal of how many films I am going to watch in a single year. However, I will make my best effort to watch and review at least one film a week. I am going to watch them in chronological order, starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and hopefully this blog will never end, because hopefully Disney will always make Disney films.

In the words of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, "It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that I welcome you..." Welcome to my blog, The Disney Films. And should any of the parties responsible for inspiring me be reading this, my most sincere appreciation.

-Alex
